How to Prepare for Your New Year’s Weight Loss Resolution

If you are like many others who are planning for a New Year’s weight loss resolution, you should consider consulting one of our Bariatric Surgeons. We all know how difficult it is to make a lifestyle change overnight. At The Bariatric Experts, we are devoted to helping you change your lifestyle for long-term weight loss, starting with a few basic tips. Our team at The Bariatric Experts can help achieve your goals, starting with these tips you can start doing ahead of time to prepare for your weight loss resolution this upcoming January:

Visualize Success AND Failure

Are you visualizing the achievement of a goal? Might you be thinking about how great it’s going to be knowing that you’ve completed a task? That’s only half of it. Don’t make the mistake of forgetting that failure is possible.

What happens after you’ve fallen off of that horse? The answer: dust yourself off, hop back on and keep riding. Visualize how this could potentially play out so that you can make contingency plans in advance. Recommit to what was started. Failure only happens when one stops trying.

Goal Setting

Know what your goals are. Be sure to keep them reasonable and attainable for yourself. Of course they should be challenging but not so demanding that you are setting yourself up for failure. If you have a larger goal, break it up into a smaller series of schedules so as to not cheat yourself out of victory. Set a date for milestones within weekly and monthly time frames. Our team of weight loss experts can help you plan a goal best suited for your needs.

Make your goals measurable. Instead of saying that your weight loss resolution is to “get in shape,” an even better thought process would be something like, “I plan to lose five pounds per week until I’ve reached my goal to lose 20 pounds in one month”. Another helpful hint is to buy that pair of pants you’ve wanted for so long, only two sizes too small. This is a powerful motivation technique.

Plan a Reward for Yourself

Motivate yourself with positive reinforcement. Treat yourself every once in awhile. You’ve earned it, after all.goals, such as losing 5 pounds in two weeks, you’ll finally accomplish something that you’ve strived for, that purse you’ve always wanted. Those two weeks will seem to have flown by once you’ve won your trophy! Don’t allow yourself that purse until you’re five pounds lighter. Move on to pants, tops, shoes. Repeat this often, and soon enough you’ll have yourself an entirely new wardrobe to fit your new frame!

Have an Action Plan

Have an action plan for each day, a goal for each week, and expect results each month. Never doubt your abilities when it comes to your goals. Slay one dragon at a time, then look back to see how far you’ve gone!

Remember, the only one stopping success is you.
